RESUMEN SIMPOSIO INVITADO
Emotional intelligence and higher students’ well-being

Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been considered an emergent topic in different fields. Remarkably, several studies have demonstrated how EI is positively associated with well-being (self-acceptance, life satisfaction, somatic complaints and self- esteem) and with optimal functioning. However, have been recent calls for further EI research in higher education, particularly in careers that involves patient/beneficent-professional relationship. Higher EI levels contribute positively to this relationship, to increase empathy, teamwork and communication skills, to stress management and organizational commitment and leadership. Thus, the modern curriculum of these careers requires the development of EI and efforts have been made to include EI measures in the selection process of these professional applicants. This symposium includes four presentations that showed the EI relevance to explain higher students outcomes, namely their well-being. This symposium includes four studies that had been developed by 7 researchers, from 2 institution (Universidade de Lisboa, Universidad de Extremadura) and two countries (e.g. Portugal and Spain).
